100X100 ARTIST'S BOOKS
Over one hundred artists participate in 100X100 Artist's Books, an exhibition promoted by SINCRESIS, a cultural association for contemporary arts active in Tuscany since 2006 with the aim of promoting creative experiments in the area and welcoming artists from different countries, working also with emerging contemporary artists, to present their research and organize exhibitions, conferences, workshops, as well as participate in art fairs and propose artist residency programs.
Over the years SINCRESIS has contributed to train, inform and open contemporary creativity in Tuscany to the world, also involving artists beyond the regional and national territory, as in this exhibition that brings together artists from all over Italy and also from abroad, from Spain to Belgium from France to England. Especially numerous were the female presences who joined our proposal.
One hundred books for one hundred artists is a project that intends to promote and enhance the artist's book as a precious creation that stands out as an expression of an individual poetics and as a work that integrates a multiplicity of aspects such as to characterize the work of an artist in its presentation to the general public. The artist's book is a work within everyone's reach,
The works books were previewed on 6 March 2022 at the Marino Marini Museum in Florence on the occasion of BAMMM !, an event dedicated to art books organized by the museum in collaboration with the Centro Di editions of Florence. On Saturday 12 March, the exhibition of artist's books will be inaugurated in the Sincresis spaces, which can be visited for three months in Empoli, thirty kilometers from Florence. The works of Antonio Cecchi and Giorgio Ulivi are also exhibited, as a tribute to two recently deceased artists. The finissage will take place in Pietrasanta in Versilia in the summer season. Each artist's book exhibited at the same time is present with appropriate images on the new website of the association to ensure maximum visibility by welcoming the preferences of the public through specific surveys in the "stories" of the SINCRESIS Instagram profile.
During the exhibition, the participating artists and their books-works will be presented starting from March 15 every week in a video conference in streaming on the Facebook profile of the association and some of them will be hosted in residence at SINCRESIS to organize workshops. dedicated to the artist's book.
The project was born, therefore, from the need to make contemporary artistic experiences known and valued, allowing dialogue, exchange and reflection on artistic creation as a mixture of the generative, aesthetic and functional aspects of making art, from the conception execution.
The organization is curated by two historians and contemporary art critics, Alessandra Scappini, president of the association, and Spela Zidar, who coordinated workshops and organized artist presentations in the context of projects promoted by the association.
Artist's books have been received with diversified and unique characteristics that make them unique as an artistic work, from manual processing as a unicum to limited edition or digital printed books.
We thank the Frittelli galleries in Florence and Vannucci in Pistoia for their availability for the loan of some books by artists recognized on the national scene.
SINCRESIS also plans to present the works books on display at an artist's book fair possibly by 2022. The artist's books can be examined on the website www.sincresisarte.com by clicking on Publications, where all the names of the participating artists.
