IN THE UTERUS
The womb as a primordial matrix
curated by Caterina Capantini and Giorgia Gibertini
By definition, the womb is a concavity, a place of ancient welcome and innate protection, the matrix of various suggestions.
The first associations that come to mind are linked to motherhood, to a locus amoenus, a safe nest to return to and in which to find comfort. Due to its creative power it is placed in analogy with the Earth, mother and archetypal cradle.
An exclusively female dimension, the womb has repeatedly been associated with the image of a dark ancestral cave, as a primordial uterus, becoming the object over time and in various cultures of a rich symbolism.
This riverbed is in fact invested with a strong dualism that contains an arcane, unknown and visceral dimension.
It is not for nothing that science has always investigated and clashes with its double identity, generating and mysterious-disturbing, the only possible way to reveal the principle of life.
