The event is under the Matron of the Donnaregina Foundation for Contemporary Arts, Mother Museum of Naples.
54 works, including paintings, drawings, pastels and engravings, dated 1956-2020, to outline the development of interior landscapes, landscapes "of dots", as she defines them, of that research that dominated the intellectual and artistic scene of the years Sixties in which the artist works with his specific reading of reality mediated by poetry.
Friend of Alberto Moravia, Carlo Levi, Ennio Flaiano Vanni Schewiller, Leonardo Sinisgalli, Giulia Napoleone -confess- "Poetry is like a landscape, the whole understanding of things happens through poetry, a verse corresponds to everything", and then, " My reading is a slow and tormented reading, a difficult process of assimilation ”. In short, a continuous and constant dialogue between poetry and graphic-pictorial research to characterize the importance and quality of his work, from the first reflections on the theme of the sign of the Sixties, to the experimentation of sublime color, especially blue, "color versatile ”which you consider“ of thought ”but also of infinity, the most mysterious and metaphysical of colors. The disruptive and restless force of this color has always characterized the work of over seventy years of work by this important and historic contemporary artist.
Giulia Napoleone research is deepened above all from the second half of the seventies onwards, in which the absence of matter brings out light and emotion. A very personal research that draws suggestions from Klee, Morandi, Fontana and Tancredi. To the infinite interweaving that pervade Napoleon's inobjective crossings, there is a proper nucleus of confluence which is the design, which has always been enabled for a specific reinterpretation of the other side of the visible, of a completely mental landscape built between balance and geometry. which - as Leonardo Sinisgalli suggests - is an inner chemistry.
For Giulia Napoleone The journey "is not just moving from one place to get to another, Giulia Napoleone's physical and frequent journeys correspond to as many mental journeys to unexplored places, between spaces, signs and constellations of the absolute and the indefinite. A long and assiduous research to investigate the signs of existence, of thought, which becomes space, time and depth in which light enters its shadow to open up to infinity and become an interior landscape.
Sandro Bongiani writes, "An incessant dialogue with the majestic blue of thoughts that tear time to become a breath and then a fleeting wind that overflows with light and thickens on the horizon, a mysterious breath of lightness, an indefinite progress towards a precarious balance that floods nature to turn into thin air. An insubstantial and at the same time metaphysical journey, with a balanced reality and an intimate journey into the inner world that resists and accompanies the journey in depth, allowing thoughts to take shape, with that uninterrupted line of the horizon and the sea that looks into infinity , hides and awakens old memories that suddenly emerge to become an evocation of light and experimentation, notes and even superfine notes of memory ”. As always, in her work, Sula's dream is slowly made and unraveled, it collects the dark omens that lightly decant themselves on the surface, thin lines and fleeting moods that, thickened together in the half-light, chase each other to give new life and destiny to the emotion. Sign in the dream, to plumb the spells of the soul and transform the hidden thoughts that the helpless and distracted eye can never understand. One trace after another of meaning, to suggest interior geometries in a progress towards balance and silence, between apparent order and the sudden moment of chaos. As in the precarious flight of the unknown diver of Paestum, who sinks into an abyss and then re-emerges from the water to new life, the enchanted colors of Napoleone travel in the cosmos, in search of a suspended time, between the perception of an infinite proceeding and the search for an absolute that has not yet found certain stability and certainty.
