Coney Island 1903
Exhibitions, Italy, Trento, 29 June 2012
The show will be an evocative array of pleasure, just like a real funfair. Outside and inside the gallery there will be recreated an architectural setting inspired by the very first amusement park of all. The reference point of this alienating installation is Coney Island's Luna Park, active since 1903 and the grandfather of all the amusement parks that have adopted its name and main attractions.
The show's aim is to open the new summer season by immersing the visitors in the dreamlike colours and atmosphere of a fairground. In this way the public can metaphorically take part in the “trip to the moon” that the founders of the Luna Park had invented for their visitors by constructing a spaceship that would carry them along a spectacular and unforgettable itinerary. An installation that aims, in a panorama of excellent yet aseptic shows, to reclaim so many “happy improprieties”.
