The ‘COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin Contemporary Art’ has reached its sixth edition. A remarkable goal considering that everything originates from passion towards art and continues to grow for the sake of it. Hundreds of participants register their works each year and the exhibition related to the prize can act as a sounding board for artists’ new stories.
As well as selecting an absolute winner each year, the COMEL Award has always had the purpose of spreading and supporting aluminum art, thus stimulating and enhancing a fundamental niche of European art. Now that the Prize is famous on all continents, even if the announcement refers exclusively to European artists, there is a striking attention by non-European artists. Despite the rules are well read and understood, contemporary artists working on aluminum want to be known, beyond borders. This is a desire to share the experience and to establish bridges above geographic barriers. In short, it is a will to have a cultural exchange.
The works submitted reveal amazing works, a mastery in the workmanship that shows a strong interest for aluminum spreading elsewhere. In particular, the works from Israel and the United States show a high level of expertise and in some cases the artists’ names are excellent. As for the artists selected to participate, in accordance with the criteria of the call, we can state that this was the year of sculpture.
The selected artists are:
Emilio Alberti (Italy, Carugo - painting), Daniela Bellofiore (Italy, Rome - painting), Lele De Bonis (Italy, Turin - sculpture), Sheila De Paoli (Italy, Milan - sculpture), Cosimo Figliuolo (Italy, Bernalda - sculpture), Lorenzo Galligani (Italy, Florence - sculpture), Rosaria Iazzetta (Italy, Naples - sculpture), George King (United Kingdom, London - sculpture), Darko Kuzmanovich (Serbia, Belgrade - sculpture), Ewa Matyja (Poland, Poznań - painting), Elisabetta Onorati (Italy, Cagliari - sculpture), Franco Politano (Italy, Catania - sculpture), Silvia Sbardella (Italy, Ferentino - sculpture).
They will participate in the exhibition ‘Sinuosity of aluminum’ from 7 to 28 October 2017 at Spazio COMEL, in Latina, Italy. After that the second and most important step will follow.
The jury, which has already selected the thirteen finalists, will have the task of deciding the winner, who will receive € 3,500 and the opportunity to hold a solo exhibition, fully organized by the company CO.ME.L. of Latina. The Award, organized annually by the company, is completely free of charge for the artists. CO.ME.L. sustains the whole organization at its own expense without any financial contribution and patronage.
As well as its president, Giorgio Agnisola, art critic and writer (Professor at the Teologico Salernitano Institute - Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy), the jury is composed of Alfredo La Malfa, curator and President of ‘La Verde La Malfa’ Foundation, in San Giovanni La Punta (Catania, Italy), and President of the ‘Casa della divina bellezza’ Foundation, Forza d’Agrò (Messina, Italy); Marco Nocca, art historian, Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome; Loredana Rea, Director of the ‘Umberto Mastroianni’ Foundation of Arpino and Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Frosinone, Italy; Maria Gabriella Mazzola, aluminum industry entrepreneur (CO.ME.L., Latina, Italy).
