The V edition of the COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin Contemporary Art concluded in the best way. The CO.ME.L., sponsor of the prize, has been selected among the participants of the International Corporate Art Awards. That’s an important acknowledgment for those who have decided to run their corporate activities by also investing in art. Indeed, a few years after the creation of the COMEL Award, Mazzola brothers’ entrepreneurial and artistic commitment has appeared unavoidable. They have made the union between art and enterprise an authentic family mission.
In fact, the COMEL Award and the Spazio COMEL represent a unitary project of the company, that aims at promoting contemporary artists by creating a multicultural and multi-expressive place of meeting in Europe, and allows free entrance to the users (the entry to the gallery is always free and the registration for the Award is also free).
The International Corporate Art Awards are organized by pptArt in collaboration with LUISS Business School with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture. Thanks to the recent selection, The CO.ME.L. of Latina is now among the largest brands that contribute to the world of art, despite being a small company, which moves with limited resources in comparison with other well-known brands worldwide.
As for the COMEL Prize, the theme of light was the challenge of the fifth edition. The artists were invited to use aluminum (the material that makes this prize unique) by emphasizing its chromatic and reflective quality.
The jury chose the artist of Belgian origin Luce Genevieve Delhove for the work ‘Raminia n. 12’. The work is highly original: it’s an old radiator transformed and revitalized. A weft of copper, aluminum and iron transform the disuse object into a suggestive sculpture emanating light. This is the motivation of the jury: ‘The work, moving from a neo-Dadaist spirit, with a fine abstract tension, reflects a cultured and refined recreational ability in visual terms, by modulating the laminated surface of an aluminum radiator with signs and impressions such as to evoke the infinite changes of the reverberated light of the metal, with a rare poetic and musical sensibility’.
Luce Genevieve Delhove is a designer, engraver, painter and sculptor. She lives and works in Milan and holds the professorship of Graphics at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera.
Moreover, two special mentions were conferred to the artists Giampaolo Cataudella, a self-taught artist of Cassino (FR, Italy), for the work ‘Metropolis’ and Ugo Cossu, an art teacher, of Cerveteri (RM, Italy), for the work ‘Schegge di stelle trafiggono la notte.’
The public also expressed their preference, by designating the victory of Elena Diaco Mayer and Mostafa Rahimi Vishteh. The first is an academically trained artist, of Padua. She presented the work ‘Ritrovarsi in un riflesso.’ This is a painting on aluminum leaf graffitied on laminate that simulates the surface of the sea and its fascinating reflections. Mostafa Rahimi Vishteh was born in Tehran (Iran). He lives and works in Sermoneta (LT). He is an architect specialized in Stained Glass. He creates sculptures and installations through the combination of various materials.
In addition, during the evening, the Roman artist Valeria Gramiccia (Afro and Pietro Consagra’s student and assistant for a long time, among the other things) has received a lifetime achievement award as ‘a prominent presence in Italian contemporary art.’
The pianist and composer Vincenzo Bianchi cheered the evening with uncommon flair and imagination, improvising music for the event.
