480 artists showed interest in this international call, which aims at enhancing the relationship between art and business, highlighting the best artistic working process of aluminum and increasing the exchange among the European countries. They wished to submit their work to the judgment of the jury. It has been an interesting number of proposals that has grown significantly over the years, making this artistic event an increasingly coveted and high quality one.

The jury of the Prize is composed of President George Agnisola (art critic, essayist, professor of Sacred Art at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy), Anna Amendolagine (art critic, essayist, officer in the cultural promotion area at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs), Fabio Barisani (designer and photographer), Dario Giugliano (university professor of Aesthetics and philosopher), Maria Gabriella Mazzola (manager at the CO.ME.L. of Latina - Technical organizing Committee and sponsors of the Award).

The COMEL Award is the only competition in Europe completely devoted to contemporary art made of aluminum (or aluminum and mixed techniques in which the aluminum material is prevalent) with regard to works of non-industrial format. It involves both artists who, for the first time, choose to create a work with aluminum and artists specialized for a long time in the processing of various metals. Among the participants, every year, there are also international well-known contemporary artists. Moreover, the organizing committee receive requests from around the world, despite the fact that the ban does not allow that. In some cities, especially in Latina where the prize was born, local artists live the appointment with great interest, challenging each other and competing with increasingly sophisticated techniques. Each year the award is dedicated to one of the expressive quality of aluminum. This edition is dedicated to the light.

The exhibition linked to the award includes the exposition of the thirteen finalists from 8th to 29th October 2016 at Spazio COMEL of Latina, and it is titled ‘Lucent aluminum.’ The jury winner and the audience winner will be selected among the finalists. The first is awarded a prize of 3500 Euros, and a solo exhibition organized by the COMEL Committee. The awards will take place on Saturday, October 29th, 2016.
