Catira
News, Brazil, Goiania, Goiânia, 22 March 2012
Catira or cateretê is a dance of Brazilian folklore, where the musical rhythm is marked by the beating of the feet and hands of the dancers.

Of hybrid origin, with influences from Indian, African and European, the catira (or "catira") has choreography performed mostly by men (farmers and ranchers) and can be formed by six to ten components plus a pair of guitarists who sing and play fashion.

It is a typical dance of Brazil's interior, especially in the area of influence of the redneck culture (Mato Grosso, northern Paraná, Minas Gerais, Goias and parts of Sao Paulo and Mato Grosso do Sul).

The choreography of catira although opinion varies very similar in certain respects, there are distinct differences from one region to another. It is usually provided with two and ten violeiros dancers.
