PRESS RELEASE

Saturday, June 30, 2012, at 6:00pm, the Villicana D'Annibale Galleria D'Arte of via Cavour (Arezzo) will inaugurate of the exhibit of painting and sculpture of Lisa Egeli & Christopher Slatoff, entitled Stars (and Stripes) under the Aretine sky. The exposition, curated by Danielle Villicana, will host a selection of works painted "en plein air" by the artist from Maryland and six works by the Californian sculptor. The art exhibition will continue, at free entry, until Sunday July 1, 2012. Both artists are highly respected in the United States - she is an exemplar artist of one of the top figurative schools of the East Coast, he is a noted figurative sculptor of the West Coast - Egeli and Slatoff will exhibit for the first time in Italy.

Lisa Egeli is an excellent landscape and portrait painter. She works in her studio in southern Maryland most of the year, and relocates in the winter months to south Florida at Miami's Art Center in southern Florida. In her artwork, the painter seeks to capture the sense and place and that combination of reverential apprehension and sacred intimacy which is the base of the encounter with nature. Lisa is fascinated by Tuscan landscapes. In exposition will be a series of sensational views, painted in the days anticipating the exposition.

Christopher Slatoff is known for his public commissions in bronze with life size figures. The sculptor will bring to Arezzo works of art of a small dimension, maquettes for large sculptures, some of which have been already realized.

Slatoff is a figurative artist of an extremely high level. In the past years he established a profound connection of friendship and collaboration with the great writer of science fiction, Ray Bradbury, author of immortal novels like The Martian Chronicles and Fahrenheit 451, whom recently passed away. Out of the conversations and the exchange of ideas between the two was born the bronze entitled Fr. Electrico, a monumental work of art influenced by classical and Renaissance sculpture, of which a few photos may be admired in the exhibition.

This event of two days, organized by the gallery, would like to be the first of a series of cultural exchanges between American artists and the city of Arezzo, which will continue in the future and will give local talents the opportunity to grow and confront important figures of contemporary art from the United States.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF LISA EGELI
Lisa Egeli is a meticulous connoisseur of nature. Her portraits and landscapes in oil and pastel are present in important permanent collections. In 1988 she graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Since then, her artistic activity has lead her to travel and observe all around the world.

In 1991 she set out on a nine month painting tour that took her to Europe, Southeast Asia, China, and New Zealand. Views From Around the World, an exhibition of documentary drawings and paintings, resulted from those travels and opened on her return. In 1998, Lisa traveled to Alaska to paint and sketch in preparation for her 1999 exhibit, Nature's Moods. In 2001 she made two painting trips to Italy. In a solo exhibit at Baltimore, in 2007, she exhibited paintings from travels in east Africa, the Everglades (marshy regions of Florida), and Maryland.

Lisa Egeli is a Fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists, an Associate Member of the Society of Animal Artists, and a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters, amongst other associations.

BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF CHRISTOPHER SLATOFF
Christopher Slatoff studied in the United States and in France. He graduated in 1978 in Sculpture from California State University of Long Beach, where he teaches life sculpture. The artist also teaches sculpture at Art Center School of Design in Pasadena, and during the summer, Medieval and Renaissance Art History in Italy, in Orvieto. He is the sculpture chairman of the California Art Club.

In 2002 he worked for a prestigious project for the Cathedral of Los Angeles, realizing groups of sculptures on a large dimension in bronze for various Stations of the Cross.

In 2011 he completed the execution of Fr. Electrico in collaboration with the writer Ray Bradbury. A version of reduced dimensions was awarded the Gold Medal for sculpture at the 97th Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. Amongst his most well known works is Sheltering Wings, commissioned by the Port District of San Diego and installed on Coronado Island.
