Zingarelli Prize – Rocca delle Macìe 2012
Prize calls, Italy, Siena, 19 April 2012
On 19th April 2012, after the great success in 2010, Rocca delle Macìe, the wine-growers of Chianti Classico, will welcome the Second Edition of the “International Zingarelli Painting Prize – Rocca delle Macìe”, aimed at promoting and enhancing the value of contemporary art. Such biennial prize pays homage to Italo Zingarelli, a famous movie producer and director: this confirms the attention that the family has always paid to Tuscany, arts, and, especially, young talents.
Italian and foreign artists, who boast a significant experience in contemporary art, will contend for the Zingarelli Prize, sponsored by the Town of Castellina in Chianti and the Province of Siena. The artists are 19, whose names are the following (in alphabetical order): Mirko Canesi, Maria Grazia Carriero, Luna Corà, Luca Cruz Salvati, Laura De Barba, Ilaria Del Monte, Raffaele Fiorella, Pierluigi Lanzillotta, Marta Mancini, Ignazio Mortellaro, Luca Moscariello, Martine Parise, Sergio Picciaredda, Vittoria Ramondelli, Riccardo Ruberti, Renato Rubini, Mattia Scappini, Chiara Sorgato and Enatalem D.Zeleke.
They must take inspiration, with a complete stylistic and technical freedom, from the “Garden of Gethsemane”, that is the theme chosen for the Second Edition of such important prize, in which oil and olive will be the leading elements. Gethsemane, an Aramaic word, means “oil-press”, and the Garden of Gethsemane, locus amoenus (also known as “The Garden of Olives”), where Jesus was betrayed by Judas, still keeps eight magnificent hundred-year-old specimens, treasured by the Franciscans.
Although the main activity of Rocca delle Macìe is wine-growing, also olive cultivation for Extra-virgin Oil production has been taking part of its history since its birth. Over 20 years ago, the Zingarelli family built up an oil-press in the Village of the Frizzano Reserve, and equipped it with the best crushing machinery in the course of time, thus assuring a very high-level production.
The Institutional “Zingarelli – Rocca delle Macìe 2012” Prize (€ 3.500) will be awarded through a popular vote of the visitors of the company and of the exhibition that will take place from 19th April 2012 to the end of September. Instead, the Zingarelli Family Special Prize (€ 1.500) will be awarded by the family to the work that will mostly reflect the company identity.
The Organizing Committee will be composed by Daniela, Sergio, Giulia and Andrea Zingarelli, the painter Raimondo Galeano, the project creator, and the curator Simona Gavioli.
The event was previewed at the Rocca delle Macìe stand (Pavilion 8, Stand D8), that was set up for Vinitaly, the International wine and spirits exhibition (from 25th to 28th March 2012).
