Bizzarie is a publishing proposal that sees as author Guerrilla Spam, this consists in a fanzine-catalogue regarding follies, vices, tricks and much more.
At first published by Gorgo Magazine, in a limited edition, it has been showed to the audience of Brescia as a manifesto, directly installed onto the wall, overlapping the previously installed artworks created by Gianfranco Farini and Chiara Lombardi.
On the occasion, the publication will be reprinted, by the publishing house ualuba.org.
Now, who are Guerrilla Spam?
It is not difficult to chance upon artworks signed by Guerrilla Spam, while wandering around Italy. From ordinary walls, to schools, from suburbs reaching historical centres, to Art Academies.
They are visual artists keen on using as exhibition space the public sphere, known for its urban architectural surfaces, its decay, its metropolitan cities assaulted by massive use and abuse of concrete.
Ours is a shared project, specifically thought, projected and realised for the ualuba.org Art Educational Centre locations.
The expository proposal has no aim in taking inside what is thought and born to be outside. Aspect that has been recurrent lately and it is hard to get a handle on.
The artworks here exposed are absolutely not taken from the streets, their natural habitat, and afterwards transferred to the art gallery.
In recent times the dominant cultures have showed themselves the more and more arrogant by wittingly seizing everybody's heritage, transforming it in an elitist's heritage – restricted to auction houses, fairs and expositions, where only affluent people is allowed.
Personally, I have been questioning myself on this matter back in 2002 during my curatorial activity for the art exhibition “Graffiti, Design ed Illegalità”, in Brescia. This exhibition was a fiasco due to the audience, however it has been constructive and proficuous since this event has seen as main characters two important names in the Graffitism context, Joys and Eron.
Both of them had taken up the challenge, although the wide-spread mistrust towards the underground culture related to graffiti. The two of them had created artworks specifically thought, to represent their atelier praxis, going beyond the wall, beyond the train tags, beyond the mere writing.
Through Bizarrie we accomplished the task of re-adapting the publishing work, playing with the material; dimensions; space; surface; constituent rhythm going beyond the edges of street art.
Nevertheless, the exhibition goes along one building intervention at the Leonardo High School of Brescia. The artwork of considerable dimensions, “Allegoria de' perdimenti” a free visual interpretation of the “Bestiario” by Leonardo da Vinci, realised thanks to a workshop seeing the participation of the third and forth year classes, is part of the five-centuries celebrations honouring Leonardo's death. These celebration have in program many events entitled “Leonardo al Leonardo”.
The artworks is opened to the public from Thursday 11th April 2019, in via Balestrieri 6, 25124, Brescia.
