After the summer exhibition at the premises of the chimneys of Catania, the exhibition entitled "Made in Sicily one hundred seventy-six artists tell you" will be hosted at the eighteenth-century historical building of the Poor of the Royal Hotel in Palermo.
The artists involved in the event, selected by curator Nicholas D'Alessandro, varied expressions are essentially related to painting. 176 artists, representing 9 provinces of Sicily, which put the same questions that curator and artist calls "evolution or involution of the persistence figurative , choices of non-formal and accessions to the general misconception of 'contemporary art', assumed to be considered as a starting point for understanding some essential steps of the exhibition.
Then the title, which refers not to regionalism but rather to make the identifications of international production that characterize the commercial and consumerist logic.
"A metaphorical display of figurative art in Sicily", as defined by the curator in the catalog. That said, Nicholas D 'Alessandro puts' s emphasis on the desire to ask questions, not certainties, the attempt to express a cry of' alert and ask questions, "a healthy pause for reflection."
Yet the artists who have long can not talk to each other with this show to speak up, and found on the walls of the Hotel lost languages of the Poor, they invent new ones, defeating their art with the inability to communicate. The unifying element, the meeting ground, thus becomes the container.
This is a first overview, which is not to be exhaustive, of 80 years of work of 176 artists, which, hopefully, others will follow. "There is a thematic exhibition (an appointment theme) in the logic of appearances, genre, of isms." Made in Sicily did not "want to be a seditious meeting or opinionated. But the attempt to express a cry of warning, asking questions about the health of the shared system of art. "
