"I care a lot about my watch. Sold me my Father on his deathbed."
(Woody Allen)
FATHERS is the first exhibition of the Review Mutant Island and deals with the relationship between father and son, analyzed from the point of view of the effects that long-term use can cause the adult children. Children of fathers strong and present, similar to overwhelming superego, or the children of fathers weak and unable to be authoritative guides.
Especially conflictual relationships with his father, even more than with his mother, seem to have, according to the most recent studies, the consequences of the identity in the future. A father and rigid like a despotic father fragile and depressed, can cause serious problems in the child identification.
For Freud, the father's death, became one of the most significant themes of his psychoanalytic investigation, and with the concept of the Oedipus complex, requires the point from which to begin any, possible treatment, able to untangle the psychic life of neurotics around the world.
That said, you can try to think about art (though not only) as refined tool to control the distressing content of some human neurosis; learn how to handle them, it may mean, for some artists, joining in the wildest and most unexplored areas of the their creativity.
And if art is the artist's life is to man as it follows the artist, as well as man must kill the father to reach maturity and success, will be forced to pass on the corpse of their parent to make room for his genius. Escape her father's authority will mean, in fact, in life as in art, breaking the rules that still hamper personal growth and the creative impulse.
Artists or not, fathers are not escaped and they can not help but to love them, to hate them, to save them and to kill them, to know the rule to contradict, because they sketch out a limit to be crossed.
Remember the unexplainedness oestrus that you can not confine within the process psychopathological, nor is consumed with the overturning of the preset.
Moreover, Freud himself, openly expresses his resignation before the mystery of artistic genius, before whom psychoanalysis is forced to lay down their arms.
