StARTers with Guido Burchi
Lectures, Italy, Siena, 18 February 2013
Two hundred years after his birth, a tribute to Wagner and to his reformation of the opera. This is the topic of the third StARTers presentation of the spring series at the Siena Art Institute.
The protagonist of the encounter will be the musicologist Guido Burchi, who will return as a StARTers guest for an evening dedicated to opera on Monday (instead of Tuesday as usual), February 18 at 6:00 PM.
Burchi will illustrate the prominent characteristics of the reform of the opera brought about by Wagner, a revolution which radically changed the conventions of this musical genre and which bears witness to the strength with which the ideas of Wagner (author of many theoretical essays on music and art in general) influenced the development of the history of all music to follow. Wagner's thought was also significant for the music of the first avant-guardes of the twentith century, who remade some characteristics of his style for a complete renovation of the musical language.
