After the screening there will be a public meeting with the director Mauro Mondello and, via videoconference, Gabriele Del Grande.

The initiative is part of the project ISLANDS and follows up on meetings and reviews promoted throughout the year sponsored by the bookstore La Zona in collaboration with many local and national realities (including Visionary, Association Europe '51, ZaLab, Room South), but it also marks the beginning of a new collaboration between three private spaces of the city, the La Zona bookstore, the Galleria FuoriCampo, and the Siena Art Institute, for the creation of a shared, participated, transversal cultural program which has as its goal the promotion of a debate on the city and on contemporary society.

"Stateless" tells the story of thousands of refugees who are even today stranded in Shousha camp on the border between Libya and Tunisia, set up by UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) in March 2011 in the aftermath of the outbreak of Libyan civil war. With a participatory gaze and direct language, everyday problems are confronted, the reality of "stateless" men and women, suspended between the hope of obtaining political asylum in third countries and having to return to their countries of origin and the forced choice of attempting to escape by sea in extreme conditions.

Along with "Stateless" another short film will be projected: "In the name of the Italian people" by Stefano Liberti and Gabriele Del Grande, produced by ZaLab in collaboration with the Open Society Foundations. The intention is to show the other side of the coin, that the situation of persons held in Rome at the CIE (Center for Identification and Expulsion), waiting to be expelled from Italy, a wait which often continues for months, completely without certainty or any guarantees. Through the eyes and voices of fathers, workers, boys and girls born in Italy, it sheds light on the situation of those who, despite not having committed any crime, live on their very skin the condition of recluse, with the approval of the institutions and the tacit consent of the public.

The evening will also be an opportunity for everyone to ask direct questions to the protagonists on the implementation of the films and their work, as well as to reflect on the profession of freelance reporter who chooses to engage in the first person, by gathering stories and eye-witnesses of difficult situations in various parts of the world.
