James Voorhies is an American curator, art historian and educator who holds a Ph.D. in modern and contemporary art history. He is founder of Bureau for Open Culture, a curatorial platform that utilizes exhibition, education, design and publishing to posit the art institution as a form of critical practice. Bureau for Open Culture collaborates with institutions such as MASS MoCA, Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts, Wexner Center for the Arts and Bennington College to produce exhibitions, publications, film series and commissioned artist projects.
Voorhies will be at the Siena Art Institute from October 11–November 25, 2012 for a Project-Based Fellowship, the first in a series of two-month art residencies that enable invited professional artists and curators to develop work utilizing Siena's resources, culture, and community and to work alongside students and local community.
His project - “L’ECLISSE redux” - will take the form of a research exhibition drawing on the filmic spaces of Italian filmmaker Michelangelo Antonioni’s 1962 film L’ECLISSE as a means for examining post-war urban development and contemporary social conditions in Siena.

“STARTERS – ASSAGGI D'ARTE” IS AN ONGOING SERIES OF CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTISTS OF INTERNATIONAL REPUTE EXPLORING ART AS A CREATIVE PROCESS, A MEETING OF EXPERIENCES, A TOOL FOR EXPLORING THE CULTURAL COMPLEXITY OF THE SOCIETY IN WHICH WE LIVE.
