stARTers:  Artist's Talk with Jenny Snider

Jenny Snider, from the American Academy of Rome, at stARTers: assaggi d'arte. In her talk entitled “Il mio viaggio in Italia: a montage of attractions” she will focus on the work she has done during her ten months residency: graphite drawings, paper machè reliefs, small sculptures, and paintings on paper. She is best known for her black and white dance drawings, painted wooden taxis, and the graduate seminars she taught, from 1987 to 2006, at Queens College, City University of New York. She is currently spending a year in Rome, as a winner of a 2011 Rome Prize in Visual Arts at the American Academy in Rome. Jenny's work has been exhibited in New York City, at the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art, and Whitney Museum. In Los Angeles she has exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Art. Jenny Snider has received fellowships and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation.

The next in this series of weekly talks will be 26 June with American artist Laurie Fendrich, visiting artist of the Siena Art Institute for the month of June, who will lead a talk in two voices with her husband, art critic of the Wall Street Journal, Peter Plagens.
