Mirko Lamonaca
Exhibitions, Italy, Milano, 18 April 2016
The work proposed by Mirko Lamonaca Wunderkammer in this series belong to the forgotten city, the artist has created following the suggestions of two authors he much loved: the architect and painter German Stefan Hoenerloh, with its highly detailed imaginary cities abandoned and the writer Dino Buzzati, an author who more than any other has been able to describe the anxiety and loneliness of contemporary man using the metaphor of the city, in the story the city staff. It is the feeling of loneliness and emptiness, combined with the inherent lack of communication, from which however the man did not seem to want to go out, to inform the works that Lamonaca offers. Its modular cities appear through an omnipresent fog, become volumes of light and shadow, full of spaces that create empty streets, intersections uninhabited, deserted apartments. Only sporadically by the fog, making it impossible to even put this place at a given time, to think within the space-time continuum, imagine it as a place where the sunsets happen at dawn, when life follows a certain course, it appears a solitary human figure, unable to put up a real physical space that surrounds it, not going to affect - if not in an absolutely irrelevant - in the context of dwelling, effectively limiting their interaction with the space that surrounds a mere physical presence without any possibility of social or human contact interchange. We are not facing a Titan that faces a tragedy had happened to fate, but simply to an inhabitant of a space built by man but frankly inhuman and dehumanizing, where the small human figure appears necessarily as a transition element, more a spectator than an actor. The city that the artist offers us a mental space, a non-place that each of us, even when it cleaves the crowd of our real cities, can have within himself, a vague and distant solitude of which often we hardly We notice, which often do not even know how to get away.
