This was the beginning of each episode of the TV series “Monsters”, broadcasted in Italy since 1988 to 1990. An aerial view of an anonymous urban district then a quickly zoom in the house. The camera goes in to a dining room, where there is a family watching TV, they are a creepy creatures eating insects, dressed in normal clothes and they have typical attitude of the american middle class. The monster is always lives in our toughts and in the social imagination, it crowds the fantasies and embodies the fear of what is different ad unknown. However, The Monster also has an exorcising power, because “ to give birth to a monster” is an expressive act that allows overcome fear and shyness to give value ourselves, and let our real essence to flow out, even the worst one.
The group exhibition “The Monsters”, throught the personal artistic style of each artists, play with a double meaning: between the prodigoius amazement of somenthing that suddenly shows and the horrible, the enormous, the strange. Monster and prodigy are synonymous and art, with its universal value, is the way to have a cognitive experience for a social integration.
The outcast and the monstrous creature comes out, in conctact with real world, it lives, interacts and mingles with other people. In this exhibition the painting is the metaphor for social integration, because the painting borns from infinite brush strokes, everyone different from each other, and theese differences come together and create the paint.
