Imaginary city - Zulkifle Mahmod
Festivals, Slovenia, Ptuj, 04 August 2011
Zulkifle Mahmod is one of the key figures of Singaporean contemporary art. The multifaceted artist prefers sound, installation, drawing and painting, with which he interrogates objects in the space.
His works are a dialogue on the frontiers of forms and materials. Through the tissue of his artworks, he explores myth, imagery and dreams, which he transforms into sounding sculptures, sound performances, where an interaction of the observer or the help or contributions of other referential figures are required: sounding artists, singers and video artists. The sound, an incorporeal entity, becomes material and tangible, and establishes in Zulkifle Mahmod's artworks a privileged, intimate and deep relationship, transcending what the ear can perceive. Mahmod has participated in many international exhibitions and events: Thailand, Germany, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Norway and Finland. He also represented Singapore at the 52nd Venice Biennial.
