HOLE– In Search of Opera without Opera
Festivals, Slovenia, Ptuj, 23 July 2011
A new media new music performance commissioned by the 9th International Festival of Contemporary Art Art Stays.

The artists invent a hole where opera once was – or could be. This is the starting point for this ‘opera without Opera’. While the artists are drawn to the grand reach of traditional opera’s ‘total art work’, they are also driven to disrupt its’ static stories, explode its’ glittery spectacle and decompose its’ sonic order.
HOLE releases opera’s bodies to the void - the soaring voices, the images, the music – and restructures new landing sites for its’ profuse desire. Through metaphors of Absence - darkness, reverb, ghosts; Artifice - video doubles, shadow; Abundance, the heart and hunger of working bodies, the artists perform networks for becoming.
