The opposition between light and darkness, since the beginning of humanity, in its rhythmic alternation, had a metaphysical connotations, psychological, ethical. The night was often associated with the place where dwell the mysterious forces, the predictions, but the magic is also the place of desire and fantasies, Eros and Thanatos. Sigmund Freud through dreams revealed the existence of the unconscious, a dark place where dwells the true self and the history of every man, which allows access to the depths, the hidden, because originally, that the light is often hidden. In the modern world the light is dominant and continuous darkness is removed even denied, everything is put on display the vision is a pre-defined plenum, nothing can be changed, the creative imagination is inhibited by too bright. The brightly lit. structure an eerie place almost psychotic, where time is an eternal day, but the apparent vitalism hides a deep fear of death. Everything is so shown, actually sets, enough to cause lack of distinction and the hallucination of a brilliant but I fake almost a fetish.
You 'must, therefore, find the desire to cross the darkness as the starting point of anew creative process. Let yourself be amazed by seeing the outline not only a deified and idolized center, stroll along the border, accept the particular but also the banal, the occasional sign of a moment lived and a recovered memory. Listen fear to cultivate the discovery. Rediscovering the moon in the sky, dreaming Astolfo and Orlando, meet the fireflies among the bushes, hear, between disturbance and amazement, the singing of nocturnal birds. The owl of wisdom Athena is an allegory, as Hegel reminds, the eyes that see in the dark discover what is there but not seen. Marion Milner says that in the creative process a new piece of the outside world, which existed, but it was not known is made interesting and meaningful. The creativity does not reproduce what is visible, writes Paul Klee, but makes visible what is not.
You have to have the courage sometimes to practice blindness to look somewhere else, to dwell in the borderland between night and day, rediscover the pleasure of being, writes Proust, in the undergrowth penumbra, a place protected from the edge of the trees , compared with the exposure distressing with the discovery clearing. In the converse twilight light and darkness, take shape presences / absences shaded. An expectation of being suspended between two possible blindness: the glare, and total darkness. The conflict between absolute knowledge, clarifier, and darkness of not understanding are the elements of matter of thinking; as always it happens when we enter into relationships with others from us. When is an analysis, writes Sigmund Freud, but in any process of knowledge, we need to focus a beam of intense darkness, so that what seemed dark glow in the lighting can shine into the darkness.
