When you go back, nothing is real
Exhibitions, Canada, Montréal, 06 November 2009
In his videos and installations, Panayiotis Delilabros inhabits current places with fragments of remembered spaces. More recently, his work has reflected the practice of his late father, Constantine Delilabros, a prolific outsider artist, in an attempt at creating a fictional collaboration. For his exhibition at articule, Panayiotis will present Automatic Reproduction of Constantine Delilabros' Music Scores, an installation dealing with Constantine's musical compositions - digital scores based on calculations extracted from the bible and performed on a calculator. The original scores having been destroyed, the artist studied the bible annotated by his father to understand his system and rewrite his music. The scores, transcribed in a font corresponding to Constantine's digitalized handwriting, will be exhibited, and the mathematical equations will be transmitted to a calculator that will play them automatically. The music thus created and amplified in the gallery will be streamed online as well as in the artist's family kitchen in Greece where it originally echoed. With this installation, the artist revisits moments of his childhood both by reproducing the creative deduction of his father and re-contextualising the listening environment of his experimentations - from the kitchen to the gallery space.

Along with this installation, the artist will present three of his previous video works, dealing with the themes of pop culture, family and memory.

Born in 1974 in Athens, Greece, Panayiotis Delilabros has been studying and working in the UK since 1996. A graduate of Central St. Martins, he received his MA in Fine Arts in 2006. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally, taking part in group and solo shows in the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden and Greece.
