Students of The Glasgow School of Art MFA programme are pleased to announce that this year’s auction will feature works by David Shrigley, Claire Barclay, Ryan Gander and Jim Lambie.
The annual MFA auction is produced by second year Masters students to raise funds for the MFA degree show and international exhibition. It remains an essential entry in the diary of both seasoned and budding art collectors, offering the opportunity to buy work by internationally recognised artists and to invest in work by those who will go on to become stars of the future. With reserves on the works in the Silent Auction at £25, there’s something for all budgets, as well as all tastes.
The evening consists of two parts – a Silent Auction and a Live Auction. The Silent Auction allows bidders to view an exhibition of over fifty works produced by emerging artists, and place discrete bids over a two-hour period. A variety of mediums are represented including drawing, painting, photography and sculpture by artists such as 2010 BP Portrait Young Artist Award winner Elizabeth McDonald. The Live Auction is the main event – a traditional auction hosted by Campbell Armour, Director of Edinburgh auction house Lyon & Turnbull. Here you can bid for works by some of the best contemporary artists Scotland has produced, such as Jonathan Monk, Toby Paterson, Turner Prize nominees Christine Borland and Jim Lambie (, and the 2001 winner Martin Creed).
The 2010 Auction will be held in the beautiful 19th century McLellan Galleries on Saturday 4 December 2010. Entry is £3, which includes a limited edition pamphlet featuring illustrations by the internationally acclaimed Romanian artist Dan Perjovschi that doubles as a bid card.
For those who are unable to attend the event in person, an advance or absentee bidding service is available. To view images and further information about the works and artists, and to complete registration for the advance bidding process, please visit mfaauction.blogspot.com.
