'From the swarf a flower can be born' is the title of Leonardo Basile's wooden creation on display from Sunday 12 January in the window of the L. Da Vinci Art and Culture Center, in via Verdi 7 in Bari-Santo Spirito.

The 'recycling of waste' (in this case, wood processing waste) as a creative practice, is the 'philosophy'
which is the basis of the artist's original work: pieces of essences with different geometric shapes and different colors that go together to embark on a "new path of life", rising to a work of art.

Of course, nothing new if we think that the assembly technique has gone through various artistic movements since the beginning of the last century and that in the contemporary world it has been enriched, with the establishment of a collective ecological awareness, of further concepts including criticism to the consumer society and the (necessary) need to counter (albeit to a minimal extent) the devastating degradation of landfills.

"I don't think - Basile declares - that I have achieved something artistically striking, after all I let myself be guided simply by that 'banal' principle of conservation whereby 'in nature nothing is created and nothing is destroyed but everything is transformed' ... if we know (we want) to see things not only for what they are, but also for what they could be. "

"This work of mine (together with others made with the same technique) wants to be a small contribution to the 'environmental cause' in the awareness that environmental degradation has a collective cause and needs an equally collective solution: everyone must put something of their own ... a bit like ants. "
