LISA LOVES PINSKY, a cura di Monica Trigona, galleria dieffe arte contemporanea
Exhibitions, Italy, Torino, 03 November 2010
Carlo Galfione (Pinerolo, Torino, 1969), almost two years after the last show at the Dieffe contemporary art gallery in Turin, is back with a new series of works that reflects on the relationship between high culture and culture "popular."
It suggests, therefore, always using his original technique of oil on paper Wallpaper / wallpaper, a series of characters normally known to the "classical band, which today are increasingly affected by the so-called low culture.
The show's title for the note is inspired by an episode of the popular sitcom animated "The Simpsons" in which Lisa, the smart daughter of eight years, the crown His dream of attending a hidden intellectual university and participating in a reading by Robert Pinsky, a distinguished American writer (poet, essayist, critic, novelist).
The TV series borrow well-known personalities in diverse cultural contexts making them available to everyone, "mainstream", and surprising, especially those who for different reasons, knew these unusual raiders.
Wanting to mention only the Simpson, Stephen Hawking, mathematician and astrophysicist, David Byrne, musician, composer and record producer, Leonard Nimoy, actor and
director, etc ... are just some of the characters made familiar through the series.
The drain of players that pass easily from cinema to TV (Lawrence Fishburne, Joe Mantegna, Phil Roth, Hugh Laurie, just to name a few) denotes as it is increasingly monopolized cultural segments that years ago the TV may prefer the cinema, theater or literature.
With the advent of globalization, cultural offerings in general is increasing, complicating and simplifying at the same time.
If in fact the modern territories were designed as containers for cultures, in contemporary culture and proceeds in a relational perspective lattice.
In an effort then to get out of their geography, but not to make the product trivial and obvious, but the industry 's popular entertainment has begun to carefully select the proposals.
The choice of Galfione to use fabrics, with their draperies and their volumes, to make the skin of his characters, a solution is attractive from the point of view aesthetic, symbolic of a purely conceptual point of view.
Our skin is the fruit of specific conditions, both genetic and environmental.
I make household textiles pleasantly dell'intersecarsi the idea of these and many other factors in the nature of our final look.
