Collective action - From head to toe in the water - is the result of a study and shared workspace by the artists: Beatrice Bartolozzi, Carla Paiolo, Gianni Ricci, Giorgia Valmorri, Martina Grkinic, Meri Iacchi and Simona Lotti within the workshop "senseOFcommunity # 4" directed and curated by Silvia Petronici in collaboration with Space OFF. good cultural practices, coordinated by the architect Marco Merlini.
Da capo a piedi nell’acqua // From head to toe in the water
The action took place Thursday, July 18, 2013 from 18.30 to Pontassieve (Fi) at the Space OFF Gallery in Via Tanzini, 14 and arriving at the Fabrizio De André River Park in Pontassieve where was held the end of collective work at the small pier on the River located approximately in the middle of the Park.
The work included creating a paper invitation created in its entirety by the artists and brought 500 people to Pontassieve. The invitation contained information about the starting point of a route, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 18.30, began in front of the Space Off Gallery in Va Tanzini 14 and overcoming the railway and the road has reached 64 (in about half an hour) the Arno River Park at a small pier on the River located approximately in the center of the Park. The invitation-in addition to the information about the meeting point and arrival, the title of the work and a small map of the route-contained within it, preserved in a clear bag, a fragment taken from a selection of waste collected during cleaning action of the Riverside. The work also included that along the way the artists achieved a revival of noises, sound of voices and conversations that people have spontaneously entertained each other by walking. On arrival at the small board near the Arno river, work has provided a sound environment spread around the dock created by playing the audio file created during the walk. In the space of the pier on the river the work involved the presence of a vessel created by artists with recycled materials connected with a rope at the two banks of the river. In the days leading up to the artists had launched the vessel by the experience of its use to navigate from one shore to the other as an initiative of game and playful interaction with possible water from the river. During the walk the job provided that the seven artists were first noted along the way by scoring the main stages of this descent to water. The work eventually involved both during the walk that upon arrival on the pier and into the water, the spontaneous micro unscheduled performances and artists based on the adaptation to the environment and to the situation that arose in it. And these were held on the pier and in the River with the entrance into the water of the river by two artists who followed up to dive the rope stretched from one side to the other. The River remained a focal point of this whole investigation, identified as place of origin but also as a point of arrival of a rediscovery and a possible return. The title found is “from head to toe in the water. Collective action”. Choosing an expression common in idiomatic use of spoken language in Tuscany is a prime means of approaching tried by artists towards the people of the country and summarizes the conceptual and practical path. The collective result from work nine days of the workshop reflected the importance of the river and its centrality not only lost in the life of the inhabitants of the village but also in Riverside Park. At the same time reflects on artistic practice as an opportunity of timing textures interrupted social and virtuous conduct theoretical and formal research towards a concrete result, this movement, synthesized entitled where the head and feet (the phrase” From head to toe” in Italian language use the word “feet”) are the two terms of the passage from the study and the research to life. His feet reaching the water, outside any metaphor, are those of everyone involved, artists, invited participants to the action and the people of Pontassieve. Your feet in the water, to the game, urban drift, I approve. The research on the sense of community has seen committed artists, curator, Gallery and community town in a continuous movement links, connections and discoveries that as first result have posed the question of liability and the reappropriation. The fragments of the waste, which the artists have ennobled clipping them, are an invitation to responsibility and consciousness, first of all, on what are destroying our and not on the border of this cluttered distance our living space making it inhospitable. We waste. They are part of us, of our choices and our daily practices. Artists lend their poetic commitment to extend a request for attention that seems to be the river itself to ask locals. Answer this call-out artists are the messengers – means or could mean taking this responsibility by recreating the lost connection with the River on one side and with our own parties forget, those alienated in a position which rejects don’t get more load. The river of this work is the place of origin is symbolic but also potential to be rediscovered. Ask the locals to respond to this invitation, for artists, starting with an Exchange a return process. The shape of the offer, a fragment of remaining material of our own lives, proceed with a gentle mode in this Exchange. The potential of meeting with water carried out in fun size by the artists themselves do not want to be a symbol of a way suggested as correct but only an invitation to rediscover this contact.
