PRESS RELEASE

ART AND ARTIST BOOK AT THE BEIT HAI’R MUSEUM IN TEL AVIV
FROM OCTOBER 17 , 2013

ART AND ARTIST BOOK is the title of the exhibition expressly organized by Studio S – Contemporary Art in Rome for the Italian Institute of Culture in Tel Aviv on the occasion of the 13th Week of the Italian Language in the World, referring to the BOOK as literary container and as object/subject of art. The exhibition displays a special ART BOOK, HEBDOMEROS, by the internationally renown artist Giorgio de Chirico, with 23 original lithographs of the artists, and 36 ARTIST BOOKS, “art works in the shape of books”, all signed by contemporary artists.

The exhibition will open under the patronage of the Italian Embassy in Israel on October 17, 2013 at the Beit Hai’r Museum in Tel Aviv.

HEBDOMEROS is an editorial masterpiece published in Rome in 1972, with text and images by the same artist, Giorgio de Chirico, writer and painter, and the ARTIST BOOKS on display are unique objects of art realized not only with paper but also with unusual and heterogeneous media and referring to the same topic: the BOOK, that certainly is even today an important medium of communication and spreading of culture, knowledge, learning, scientific and poetic contents. Internationally renown as well as emergent artists devoted themselves to this specialized art field all over the world making use of the most various media, from painting to drawing, from sculpture to writing, from paper to clay, from fabrics to straw, from photography to computer and so on : as a result the ARTIST BOOK became an art object which is no longer, or not only, a mean of communication and cultural spreading but a subject itself witnessing the radical transformations of art languages in the XX century.

This exhibition complies with the cultural project of the Italian Institute of Culture in Tel Aviv during the 13th Week of the Italian Language in the Word under the High Patronage of the President of the Republic since it offers a panorama of art trends in Italy, from tradition to innovation, and pays homage, at the same time, to one of the most common instrument to study and promote the language, THE BOOK.
