Cuba!: Celebrating more than twenty years of collaboration of the Cultural Arci and Cuba, and does so through two exhibitions: Gym describing the promotion of art and culture over the past five Cuban Association Cubeart years; en Azul y Rojo and Flora, Rene Portocarrero dedicated to the one of the greatest Cuban painters, who gave birth 44 years ago at the Venice Biennale to a screen printing workshop. The exhibition also features an interactive installation: Poetry! To intervene where artists, poets and musicians Cubans, Italians and other parts of the world. This year, forty-four years of absence, the Republic of Cuba returns to the pavilion with its own 54. International Art Exhibition, the Biennale di Venezia with the exhibition Cuba Mon Amour in place until November 27 the island of San Servolo.
Cuba! celebrates more than twenty years of closeness of Cuban and Italian cultures tangible example of the work done by the Associazione Culturale Arci, its clubs and committees in favor of the Cuban people and culture would be the number of event to report since the beginning of the year 90: the first conducted by the then ArciNova solidarity campaign on behalf of children and schools (A en barco de papel a sea of color) that collaborates with the band "The Nomad" and ends with an extraordinary concert in Havana, on Calle 23, La Rampa. In those early '90s thanks to the work of Giuliano Rossi and Daniele Lorenzi, National President Arch, began an intense collaboration with the cultural UNEAC first, then with ICAIC, the Cuban Film Institute, collaboration that lasts to this day . And 'in particular through the activity during the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, both independently and through fruitful collaboration with Gianni Mina and, above all, with the late Piero Vivarelli, Arci Ucca that became known for numerous initiatives, from overviews of Italian cinema, always followed, the events related to the great protagonists of our film culture: Pier Paolo Pasolini, Roberto Rossellini, in memory of the same name which opens at the EICTV the classroom, the Escuela Internacional San Antonio de los Banos, in the presence of the widow of the author. Of particular importance is the celebration of the centenary of the birth of Cesare Zavattini, author dear to Cuba, in collaboration with the Emilia Romagna and the Film Library of Bologna, with the participation of scholars from all over Europe as well as the writer García Márquez. Among the initiatives, we also remember the enormous resonance obtained, the presence in Havana of the Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani, the inauguration of the Film Festival at the Teatro Karl Marx and his show at the Teatro Amadeo Roldán. Ucca ARCI has also supported the practice early experience of the Festival del Cine Pobre Jibaro, alongside director Humberto Solas of late. The activity continues in film during the Festival, with partners old and new, and reviews proposals with the UCC. In parallel, either directly or with his support, the Arch has enabled the realization of many cultural initiatives (by the Nomads in Jovanotti, by Article 31 to Danity Kane, etc.) has worked primarily in a decisive manner to the presence in Cuba of Maestro Claudio Abbado , who has directed some memorable concerts there. The ARCI has also facilitated the airing of programs at the Cuban television music of great attraction for young people, such as the Roxy Bar, etc.. In the social sphere, through the widespread involvement of many of its committees, the Arch has also claimed, from the late 90s, the UN projects on Decentralized Cooperation (PDHL), who have seen for a long term activity intense part of many local authorities, mainly (but not only) in Tuscany. The activities of solidarity and cooperation has intensified in recent years, both through joint projects with other partners in Havana-Ecopolis, either through European projects managed directly as ARCI-arcs (the NGO ARCI). We want to be remembered that, since the late 90's, held in Havana on Italo Calvino's literary award, sponsored by the group whose founding members, as well all'l'ARCI are the UNEAC and the Italian Embassy in Cuba with which the ARCI always enjoyed a fruitful cooperation in many initiatives, among them we remember the Italian Culture Week, sponsored annually, in fact, the Italian Embassy.
1. Gym. The historic hall is the gym that has been set of the filming of some scenes from the movie "Rocco and His Brothers," directed by Luchino Visconti in 1960, the apex of the post-war Italian cinema, neorealism by origin and by definition, of which film Visconti is was one of its initiators with De Sica and Zavattini. The quote is not random. In the same year, 1960, the influence of Italian neo-realism is then revealed in a film more indicative of the Cuban film "Historias de la Revolución." It is Tomás Gutiérrez Alea (Havana, December 11, 1928 - April 16, 1996) one of the greatest directors of the twentieth century Cuban. Alea, who just completed his law studies he moved to Rome to attend the Experimental Centre of Cinematography, returns to Cuba in 1953 doing business uninterrupted in the years preceding the victory of the revolution on the island. With the Revolution Alea says: [... the watchword was to take the new reality and find ways to express it and express themselves through film.]. It is also the film that inspired the title of the Cuban presence at the Biennale di Venezia with the exhibition Cuba Mon Amour by Duccio Trombadori and Jorge Fernandez, and recalling the title of the film by Alain Resnais' Hiroshima Mon Amour ".
Gym emphasizes on the one hand through a tour of exhibitions, events and artists, the activities carried out by the Cultural Cubeart since its first event ContemporaneaCuba2007. The exhibition includes different events and projects in Cuba, up to the project, Non Profit Art + in 2010 dedicated to young artists under thirty, which takes place every year in Cuba and in Italy and boasts the participation of Cuban artists, Italian, and European many other parts of the world. An 'important cultural and artistic relationship between Cuba and Italy, then, that has created a sort of union between the parts of poetic thought and aesthetic form of relief and international prestige. Gym is also an exercise in experimentation, a place of research and innovation and how to write art criticism Clear Channel in 2007: [... a very diverse landscape, able to embrace all the complexity, beyond formulas have unique stylistic consistency, and each time to give testimony through different variations of expression: the new figuration with abstraction opera-style post-impressionist, neo-Cubist scans gestural informality; moralism Mexico up to Surrealism naive impression].
2. Flora en Azul y Rojo is a tribute to René Portocarrero (Havana, 24 February 1912-27 April 1985) one of the leading exponents of Cuban culture and art. Great colorist, root baroque, his painting is vibrant with strong references to Afro-Cuban tradition and a poetic perspective. Portocarrero said of his painting:
[Do I have ...
The artist in 1966 at the Venice Biennial presents a screen printing workshop with a personal room. Flora en Azul y Rojo wants to be the link between the two plots, the first event and the spirit of this review, Cuba!, Calling into question a great personality and his work as a printer of art: George Upiglio. A workshop for over forty years working with recognized artists such as Enrico Baj, De Chirico, Marcel Duchamp, Miro, Picasso and many others up to the most famous Cuban artists such as Wilfredo Lam and Rene Portocarrero the same.
