The project Pandora_2 by Tiziana Pers will be presented on the 4th of June at 7 pm at Krossing, collateral event of the 53rd International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, in the historical spaces of Forte Marghera, curated by Andrea Bonifacio.
Pandora sees the research of a constructive art intended as necessity, at the beginning of this millenium, set against the clearly destructive forms of expression. Pandora underlines how much the aesthetics of the cruel usually pays in the contemporary system, in a circuit of useless omnipotence and sterile exaltation, subdued and impoverished by the laws of the Capitalism. Pandora therefore puts into effect a fracture and requires a new beginning
In Pandora_2 Tiziana Pers saved two horses from the slaughterhouse, for then physically share a meal together with the performers and the public. In proximity to be represented as food, considered as objects, the animals turn into other, becoming table companions, similar in the pain, even keeping their diversity, through a ritual of recognition.
The voices overlapping in the reading of the The Canticle of Creatures are those of the very patients of the centre ‘Anche Noi a Cavallo’, to which the horses will be donated .
In the performance there is a voluntary reference to the "Orgien Mysterien Theater" of Hermann Nitsch, that is realized however for absolute opposition. Here the catharsis is fulfilled without victims, but on the contrary it is achieved during the salvific act of the empathetic sharing. The action constitutes the initiation moment, that breaks the border between art and public, provoking an ethical question.
Pandora_2 is the third of a series of performances to save the possible greatest number of horses, to be donated then to hippotherapy centers.
Thanks to horse-therapy children, young people and adults suffering from physical, neurological, cognitive or emotional disorders are able to experience increased self-sufficiency; such therapy allows them to live the opposite situation to the one to which they are used, as their disability decreases in favour of new important skills.
So what was going to be just ‘meat’ after the action starts playing a valuable social role, tracing the Circle of Rebirth.
After the performance a video documenting the action will remain in the exhibition, with the installations, the paintings and a photograph of Pandora_2.
Krossing-Immaginodromo will take place in the extraordinary complex of Forte Marghera (Venezia Mestre), and will be open until the 15th of October, 10 am-18 pm, closed on Monday.
