Exhibitions, Italy, Firenze, 26 September 2009
The SACI Gallery is proud to present works by Fiorella Bologna, Daniela Caciagli and Andrea Mercedes Melocco in the exhibition Passages, organized with the collaboration of the Mercurio Arte Contemporanea gallery in Viareggio.

Recent works will be shown by this group of women artists, each of whom have exhibited extensively within Italy and in other countries. Although diverse in style, technique and aesthetic concerns, each artist shares a spirit and commitment to their respective creative goals.

Fiorella Bologna (Castelnuovo Magra, 1956) experiments with stratification of diverse materials – from oil to pastel to pencil – using mixed techniques with elaborate layers and tonal variations: her works are based on the essence of the material and chromatic details. Memories of infancy mix with light irony, almost as an archaic reminiscence of personal memories, amalgamated in a soft sentimental atmosphere. In this context, the written word appears frequently: at times in an explicative way, and, in other instances, in a simply graphic manner.

In the oil and acrylic paintings of Daniela Caciagli (Bibbona, 1962) references to Pop and Surrealism are combined with originality. The artist seeks to form reality and represent it as a continuous mutation, creating free associations of fantasy and fragments of daily life which seem to be presented without reference to specific time or space. With a vibrant use of chromatics, color is the important element creating form, the way to communicate an unusual reflection of an impenetrable destiny that characterizes being human.

Andrea Mercedes Melocco (Budapest, 1956) uses enamel on large format figure-shaped black board with a strong visual impact and notabl evocativeness. She creates unique pieces that involve gestures, emotions, and thoughts: not portraits, not photographs, but the actual essence of the person, that which is revealed in a silhouette. Black is the only color that the artist uses to make the form stand out without contaminating the narration: any other color would tell the story differently, and evoke toward other emotions which would take away from the strong nucleous from which each form is created.
The exhibiton is organized in three categories – one for each artist – curated by the Mercurio Arte Contemporary Gallery, with critical texts by Matteo Sara (for Bologna), Simone Fappani (for Caciagli), and Mario Bonacini (for Melocco).

Passages will remain open until October 19, from Monday to Friday 9am-7pm, Saturday and Sunday 1-7pm. Infoline: 055 289948 www.saci-florence.edu
