During the month of November Virginia Lopez collected the still fresh leaves which were lying on her lawn, she waxed them with the intention to preserve their colour and their softness. Gradually the tree became leafless and she kept on conserving the leaves. Would she be able to interrupt the moment of decomposition? The eleventh of December the tree was completely bare and all of its leaves were conserved in wax. Hundreds of leaves remained motionless like a votive offering of nature, a testimony of a time which has to be healed, a new era which will rise: the time of our desires.
The exhibition 'Ephemeros' presents a series of works which deal with the notion of time and transitoriness. Lopez defines art as an eternal substance even though it decays constantly. 'Ephemeros' talks about nature and its cyclic rhythms, about dense and still water, which represent a deposit for our memories and a place for our dreaming in a vague time full of confusion. The exhibition manifests its concerns through the applied materials, since they are the original holders of time. Wax as an organic and metamorphic material, which is constantly exposed to transformations, and the ancient method of photographic print are used to represent a reflection about art, time and memory.
