Itaca Isa. Sustainable art: between ethics and aestethics.
The travelling exhibition of arts teachers’ works arrives to Noto
Sala Gagliardi, August 1-15, 10.00-12.00 and 17.00-20.00
Opening on Friday, August 1st, at 18.30

Painters, photographers, sculptors, poets, musicians, performers, dancers: in its fifth year, Notarte is a well introduced brand name in the Sicilian cultural scene. The exhibition of Noto’s artists is the pivot of the town’s August celebrations. Once again, fifty artists invade the old town with two collective and several minor personal exhibitions.

What’s new is the arrangement chosen for the 2008 edition by Vincenzo Medica from Studio Barnum, the event’s curator.
“I use a curtain to transform Via Nicolaci into a stage set”, Medica explains. “The exhibition will take place on a visual carpet, uncoiled every evening at sunset.”
From 7 p.m., day after day, the curtain will open on the Noto artists and the public will be able to participate in the preparation of the set – a happening on its own – as the carpet of art reinvents itself, never the same as it was the day before. In the middle of all this, lounge corners made of inviting cushions provide space for observations and conversations.

Video installations in the Ronco Leanti, performances and concerts complete the event, made possible by the support of the town of Noto and the province of Syracuse. The opening, with a big celebration of the Notartists, is to be held on Saturday, August 2nd, at 22.00. The exhibition will continue every day until the 17th from 19.30 to 24.00.

As a part of the Notarte program, in the Sala Gagliardi in Trigona Palace, the exhibition Itaca Isa. Sustainable art: between ethics and aestethics will stop over on its Sicily tour after the big success achieved in Syracuse. The exhibition, set up by Umberto Mario Garro, shows works of the alumni of the Istituto Statale d’Arte in Syracuse. Opening on August 1st at 18.30, the show will remain open every day until the 15th, from 10.00 to 12.00 and from 17.00 to 20.00.
