The Cross on the Sasso di Simone is 100 years old

Starting Friday, June 21, the celebrations for the centenary of raised cross on the Sasso di Simone. Built in 1912 and was consecrated in 1913 as part of the 1600th anniversary of the Edict of Constantine, by which, practically, is recognized freedom of worship for Christians. The ties of Sestino with that period are based on a unique inscription, placed in the National Museum, dedicated to the "Deo Romulo" as part of a persistent conflict between paganism and Christianity again.
The Sasso di Simone is a mountain symbol, which has accompanied - or marked - the story of the people not only of Sestino but Apennines between Romagna, Tuscany, Marche. And today is, again, a place of great attraction and fundamental to tourism and forestry-pastoral economy of the area. It 'also the mountain rich in history and archaeological interest, with the remains, often submerged, a city, a Benedictine abbey, among the beauties of nature of strong attractions.
Friday will be opened, at 17.00, two exhibitions: an exhibition of sculptures made of local stone, the young but Chiarabini said Andrea (Andrea da Montefeltro), located in the spaces of sure effect of the crypt of the church of San Pancrazio, in Sestino . Then will be inaugurated a photographic exhibition - 100 years of images - concerning the "Party at the Rock". From the moment of the consecration of the cross to this day, even to see the transformation of a "pilgrimage", once religious today primarily made by walkers, in the heart of the Nature Reserve, called appounto "Sasso di Simone" and the park inter-Romagna -Marche, which always takes its name from Simon and the adjacent Simoncello. Exhibition held in the premises of the Municipal Library, with many vintage photos provided by individuals and institutions.
The Committee is comprised of the municipalities of interregional Sestino, Carpegna and Pennabilli, from Park interregional Simon, Simoncello Carpegna by the Province of Arezzo, Arezzo and from the Diocese of Montefeltro, dall'UNCEM Tuscan, from the National Association "City of Chianina" .
The opening ceremony will take part, along with the mayor Elbo Donati, the mayors of Pennabilli of Carpegna, the Commissioner of the Interregional Park, the director of "City of Chianina" and the commissioner of the Province of Arezzo Rita Mezzetti Panozzi., The president of 'Union of Municipalities Montani, Marcello Minozzi.
