Work shops with children
27 March 2013
I recently participated in a workshop at the gallery in which I exhibit and had a most enjoyable time teaching some young budding artists about the use of acrylics.

One student in particular was just eight years old and was quite determined that she was not going to enjoy the experience or indeed participate.

What a joy it was to see her face light up when after some considerable coaxing, flattery and requests for her to help me, she produced a lovely little seascape complete with sea birds and a rickety fence.

As she left she told her mother that when she grew up she would become an artist.

I had never thought about the importance of encouraging children at an early age to express their artistic side and I realised just how important that is. I really hope she continues to paint and continues enjoying it and perhaps becomes an artist in her later life.

I found the whole experience of teaching young people, very humbling and very rewarding
