The BERLINER LISTE will take place September 13th to 16th, 2012 in Berlin at the MUMA exhibition grounds (formerly Trafo). Organisers are focussing particularly on enhancing Berlin’s status as an important city for art production and galleries as well as providing rising art stars with exhibition space. As part of this, the BERLINER LISTE will promote a particularly promising individual artist. The initiative starts this year with Berlin painter Michael Luther, whose 3 x 13.3m large painting ‘Colourado’ will be displayed in MUMA’s entrance hall.
“We are delighted to present Michael Luther’s gigantic key piece at the 9th BERLINER LISTE,” says Jörgen Golz, the new director of the BERLINER LISTE. “With a fascinating tension between material and motive, medium and expression, this piece is emblematic of the search for substance in painting. ‘Colourado’ is predestined to attune art lovers and collectors to the mood of Berlin’s biggest art fair.”
Michael Luther was born in 1964 in Saulgau in southern Germany. He was appointed master pupil after studying painting at the Academy of Art in Berlin from 1992 – 97. He lives and works in the capital. Monumentally proportioned, hyper-realistic colour landscapes are characteristic of Luther’s work, still considered an art insiders’ tip. ‘Colourado’ is the largest of all his pieces.
“The BERLINER LISTE presents me with the ideal opportunity to expose my works to an international, arty audience,” says Luther. “As an artist from Berlin I am thrilled that the BERLINER LISTE lays importance on Berlin’s potential as a significant art market, even after the end of the ART FORUM fair.”
