Art. 1 – AIMThe prize has been established to promote international contemporary art in the widest possible sense. There will be a final art exhibition with 50 artworks, a final catalogue of circa 150 pages with circa 120 illustrated works of art and critical texts, as well as 5 prize awards and benefits totaling 30,000 €. The exhibition of finalist works, voting and awards will take place at The Invisible Dog, Brooklyn, New York, 11-13 November 2011.
Art. 2 - ELIGIBILITYThe art competition is open to any person practicing art either as a professional artist in full-time or part-time, student artist or self-taught artist from anywhere in the world. There is no age limit for applicants and the prize is open to all artists whatever their qualifications, with or without experience of public or private exhibitions, critical acclaim, or collectors at a national or international level. The prize encourages participation by artists at every level.
Art. 3 – PRIZESExcellence in content, contemporary aesthetic, technique, and material is sought in the selection of works for the final exhibition. Works of art submitted to the prize must have been completed in the last 24 months, and do not necessarily have to have been exhibited before. There is no special subject, title or theme required for participating works, they can range from being figurative to abstract, from conceptual to participatory in content and presentation.
(A) PAINTING PRIZE 6,000 €
First prize 4,000 €, and 220 € to each of the other nine finalists*.
Media accepted for the painting competition : oil, acrylic, industrial paints, ink, vinyl, watercolour, graphite, pencil, illustrations, printing of various forms, etc. The work can have any form of support: canvas, paper, cardboard, wood, plastic, metal, etc. Diptychs or triptychs are considered one work. The maximum size permitted in a two-dimensional format is 2,5 x 2,5 metres, including any framing (the latter is not necessary).
(B) PHOTOGRAPHY & DIGITAL GRAPHICS PRIZE 6,000 €
First prize 4,000 €, and 220 € to each of the other nine finalists*.
Media accepted for the photography competition : works in 2D, including digital photography, traditional-analogue photography, net art / web art, computer graphic modelling, software art or works in which several media are used, for example digital manipulations which include the use of painting or other forms of manual expression, polaroids, mobile phones, collages, etc. Diptychs or triptychs are considered one work. The maximum size permitted in a two-dimensional format is 2,5 x 2,5 metres, including any framing (the latter is not necessary).
C) VIDEO & ANIMATION PRIZE 6,000 €
First prize 4,000 €, and 220 € to each of the other nine finalists*.
Media accepted for the video and animation: video, video art, short film, timelapse, stop motion, any kind of animation 2d and 3d.
(D) INSTALLATION & SCULPTURE PRIZE 6,000 €
First prize 4,000 €, and 220 € to each of the other nine finalists*.
Media accepted for the installation competition : works in 3D, installation, video installation, multimedia installation, net art, sculpture – all materials are accepted (organic or inorganic), as well as works with an interactive basis and/or connection to electricity, motorisation, light, sound or video. If an installation includes projection of a video the latter must be presented on DVD (Art. 6. (B) 3.). The maximum area size permitted for works is 5 x 5 metres. Technical support(E) LIVE MEDIA & PERFORMANCE PRIZE 6,000 €
First prize 4,000 €, and 220 € to each of the nine other finalists*.
Media include: a live audio visuals set, vj set, live cinema, any kind of performance, which may or may not include the use of any form of software and hardware. Live audiovisual performances can either be projected on screens or presented as a live audiovisual performance in a space which does not exceed 10 x 10 metres, as well as live audio visual performances, sound art and all forms of participatory art. Duration of finalist performances is max 30 minutes. For the purposes of presentation on the prize website a showreel in video is required (see video Art. 6. (B) 3 for video formats). The showreel can be a recording of a live performance of the work, or a presentation in computer graphics, which will be the core of the candidate’s set if it is chosen for the final. Technical support*Celeste Prize has by Italian Law to hand over to the Italian state 25% of finalists’ prize money for tax purposes. This sum will be withheld by the Organiser from each first prize winner and all finalists who receive reimbursements. A prize winner or finalist who is non-resident in Italy can request the Italian tax authorities to have his or her tax advance recredited in his/her country of residence, this is a suggestion and in no way represents a certainty guaranteed by Celeste Art Prize.
Art. 4 – SELECTIONS & WINNERSSelection of the 50 finalists’ works and the 75 shortlisted works will be carried out by members of the Selection Committee. Each selector will publish online his or her 5 preferred works in each prize category. Selections will be published no later than 22 September 2011. Artists of the 10 works which receive from selectors the highest number of preferences in each category will become finalists, and will be invited to bring their works to the final exhibition in NYC. Shortlisted works for the catalogue will be decided upon online in the same ‘public’ manner. In the event of their being an equal number of preferences among some of the chosen works for ‘finalist’ and ‘shortlisted’ artists, the jurors will decide which works are chosen (this also applies to the Live Media & Performance Prize in which the jurors will be called to express their preferences).

THE WINNERS
There will be one winner in each prize category (see Art.3, A to E) chosen by the jurors during the final exhibition in New York. All finalists' artworks, including those by first-prize winners, will remain after the awards ceremony property of the artists or of their legitimate owners.
Art. 5 – TERMS FOR ENTRYEntry deadline is 7 August 2011. For applications sent via mail the date of the post mark must be no later than 7 August deadline.
‘Prize’ membership fee 2011:
60 € if you joined last year, and renew before your 2010 membership expires, otherwise
90 € if this is your first time application.
Membership fees are not refundable.

How to become a Prize member?
- Sign-up onsite, and then Login.
- Fill in your profile, artist statement, and personal photograph.
- Pay online: from your user account homepage, make the upgrade to Prize member by clicking on the orange button 'Upgrade to Prize'. For immediate effect, pay online via credit card; If you choose other methods of payment (see Art. 6. (B), like a bank transfer, your ‘Prize’ membership account will be activated once the Organiser has checked that payment has been received.
There are two ways of submitting a work:
(A) DIRECT UPLOAD ON THE WEBSITE.
Once you have become a ‘Prize’ member return to your personal admin homepage and click on the box 'Celeste Prize 2011', begin to fill in details requested, upload artwork you wish to submit (image of works, title description, notes, etc), save your work (you can save and return another time to finish); final step is to click on 'confirm' to ensure your work is visible and among candidate works to the prize.
If you choose to submit a work by direct upload, not only is it cheaper and faster, it is not necessary to send the Organiser copies of the application form or images of works by post.
(B) BY POST/ MAIL TO:

1. A complete and signed copy of the Application Form.
2. On CD/DVD (or as positive photographs and text): Curriculum Vitae or a short biography, preferably written in English, but other languages are also accepted; Your 2 prize candidate works, including title and description. You also have the option of adding 2 works for the exhibition ‘Producing Censorship’.
Image specifications for all works (except videos):
Send images of your works on a CD in JPG or TIF format. We advise a document size of 21x29 cm at 300 dpi. Or send a photograph in positive, minimum size 15x10cm, maximum 21x29cm (A4). Please indicate on the reverse of all photographs: name and surname, address, title of work, medium, dimensions (width x height) and year of execution.
Image specifications for videos, motion graphics, animation, and live media:
Send your video art work on CD-ROM or DVD Data, or upload on the website, in the following format: MP4, speed or data rate 2500 kbits/sec (for regular video) or 5000 kbits/sec (for high definition); there is no duration limit. If your work is selected for exhibition you will be invited to send a copy of the original art work with its full quality characteristics. It is necessary to send a still-photograph taken from the video for reproduction in the 2011 Celeste Prize Catalogue (above for photo characteristics).

You must include the following details when bank transfers are made; Failure to do this could result in your membership not being accepted and therefore participation in Celeste Prize will remain pending:

The cost for a postal application, in which the Organiser uploads images of your artworks and texts, for a maximum of two artworks in Celeste Prize and 2 other images for Censorship or other works is 130 €. If you participated in ‘Celeste prize 2010’ and want to make a postal application before your 2010 membership expires, the ‘ 2011 Prize Member’ fee is 100 €. Membership fees are not refundable.
Art. 7 – TIMETABLE FOR SELECTIONS & EXHIBITION(A) 7 August - last day for entries to Celeste Prize 2011.
(B) 22 September - publication online of selectors’ choices for the 50 finalists and 75 shortlisted artists.
(C) 11-13 November - final exhibition at The Invisible Dog, Brooklyn, NYC, including live media performances, awards and benefit events.
Art. 8 – TRANSPORT & TRAVELFor each finalist who exhibits his or her work at the final exhibition there is a 220 € reimbursement to cover part of transport and travel expenses (first-prize winners receive the first prize money only, see Art. 3.). Transport of the 50 finalist works and related costs to and from the exhibition location will be arranged and covered directly by each finalist artist.
Art. 9 – CATALOGUEA copy of the 150 page catalogue with circa 120 illustrations and critical texts written by members of the selection panel will be available free to every finalist, while participating artists will receive a discount on list prices (see ‘Catalogues’ page). Copies of the catalogue can be collected at the finalists’ exhibition or requested by post from the publisher. If catalogues are requested by post, postage and packing is to be paid in advance by the purchaser.
Art. 10 – BENEFITSIn addition, to financial awards and events organised by Celeste in New York during the final exhibition in November, participating artists can request and be selected for the following activities in 2011:
(A) Five artists invited to a group exhibition at the
Tria Gallery in New York in 2012. The Gallery Director will announce the artists names at the prize awards night, 11 November.
(B) Exhibition of 20 works in Milan and New York
'Producing Censorship' as part of Celeste's annual investigation in a relevant cultural theme. Exhibition in Milan at the Fabbrica del Vapore, via Procaccini 4, during the StART event; in New York at The Invisible Dog, Brooklyn.
(C) One artist will be invited for a month's residency in Brooklyn, New York, at The Invisible Dog, studio included. Selection by Lucien Zayan of
The Invisible Dog announced at the prize awards night, 11 November.
(D) One finalist artist will be invited for a month’s residency at
Ondarte in Mexico, studio and lodgings included. Selection by the prize jury and the residency announced at the prize awards night.
(E) One finalist artist will be invited for a month’s residency in Siena, Italy, at the
Siena Art Institute , studio and lodgings included. Selection by the prize jury and the Institute announced at the prize awards night.
(F) Fonlad Festival, Portugal, 13 September to 31 December exhibition on the UAVM Virtual Museum. 12 works will be selected on the theme
'Producing Censorship' by Aria Spinelli & Jason Waite from those presented to Celeste's annual theme. Works for this virtual exhibition will be in the following formats: photography, digital painting, video, animation, web art. Brief synopsis of each work, and data details.

(G) One student artist receives a free, three-month art course at the
Siena Art Institute , Italy, includes a scholarship which covers tuition fees. All students who enter the prize can
apply with an email. Selection by the Institute will be announced at the prize awards night 11 November.
Art. 11 – ACCEPTANCES AND COPYRIGHT(A) By ticking online Celeste Prize’s Terms & Conditions or signing the Application Form (the latter if prize submissions are made by post), artists accept all that these Terms & Conditions contain.
(B) Artists allow Celeste Network to use images of works they upload for communication and promotion purposes only: to create the prize catalogue or other promotional material associated with the prize, and in Celeste's websites. All material appearing onsite and in print remains copyright of the originating artists.
(C) All photographic material and files relating to artwork submitted online remain property of the artist, who detains full copyright over artwork, but consents to its use by Celeste Network in the ways descibed above in (B). CDs, DVDs, CVs and any texts or catalogues submitted for the prize will not be returned, but archived by the Organiser.
(D) Those persons who upload text, images, or videos onto the prize website, and/or those persons who upload on behalf of participating artists, are personally responsible for the texts and for the visual content of the uploaded images. The Organiser reserves the right to remove any defamatory images or texts, he considers defamatory, unless these are motivated in writing by the artist. Artworks uploaded and presented to ‘Celeste Prize 2011’ and personal webpage relating to the artist will remain visible online and in use as described in (B) above, as part of the complete visual documentation of each prize submission and cannot be removed.
(E) Applicants to the prize authorise the Organiser Steven Music and the Celeste Network and all those persons charged with working for them to handle personal data and images of creative work submitted to Celeste Prize, according to Italian Law - Legge 675/96 (the so-called ‘Privacy Law’) and successive amendments to it, D.lgs 196/2003 (Codice Privacy), for the purposes of insertion of information in databases and website. Any controversies will be argued and settled in the Italian legal forum. Personal data, images of creative work, or films and videos taken by the Organiser during the course of any event organised by Celeste Network, might be used by the Organiser to promote artists, other contemporary art events, web promotion, communications, and marketing without necessarily seeking another written consent from third parties.
(F) The Organiser retains the right to change the Terms & Conditions should the need arise.
