Biografia
I have created paintings in differing styles. Inspired by Rembrandt, Velazquez and Caravaggio, I journeyed through Realism and Photo-realism. Inspired by Picasso, Matisse and Native Cultures. I journeyed into the simplification of line and shape and the freedom of color and surface. I have constructed paintings of multiple canvases with added panels of inlaid glass, carved wood, branches, shell and various tactile materials.
I choose strong noble imagery and give a strong focus to composition, brilliant lighting and color interaction. I am greatly interested in the shapes that lay behind the focal subject, refining their relationship to rhythm, movement and mystery.
I am an Artist whom like a Musician has a varied repertoire in both Classical and Jazz.
In the Classical mode, sunlight is my subject. The energy that brings color and form into being, enabling brilliant highlights and deepest shadows. The realist paintings take on the light in striking and subtle coloration, that I paint with expressively controlled traditional layering of paint. I choose these images for their unique persona that extends a bridge to the essence of Nature. I approach these subjects objectively. These paintings are created with a monochromatic earth toned under-painting overlaid with gradually thicker layers of brushwork and then finishing glazes of subtle transparent color and impasto highlights.
In the Jazz mode, sensuality is my subject. Line becomes form and shape filled with vibrant colors creating a world of figures, animals and plants in mutual harmony. The space has an altered quality of gravity and perspective, enhanced color and emotive surface where symbols of love, creativity and spirituality enliven the surface environment. I approach these subjects subjectively. These artworks originate as drawings created from the imagination, which are inscribed into a thick layer of paint, creating a physically dimensional line that flows in confident improvisation, forming simplified iconic shapes. Expressive color is added as emotional and intuitional response to the exotic subjects.
