Toys donated by the public during the annual Toy Run to the Italian Motorcycle Club (IMOC). Searching for
something to do with almost 9 cubic meters of cat urine stained broken toys the organizer learned of and
decided to give the toys to Bester, as they were too broken, disfigured or of such poor quality that they could
not been given to any child. In the making of this work, beneath the happy and attractive colours, the toys
become increasingly ominous, luminous colours increasingly repulsive, and recognizable elements bore the
traces of torture and dismemberment. The result is a large 'explosion' with parts of a black sphere sprayed
over an expanse of wall, toys bubbling out...broken toys...and frighteningly amassed. This piece reminds one
of a land mine that maims too many children in Africa, while people continue to think that donating poor
quality toys will make a difference, not to mention the perpetuation of violence and gender imbalances by
these kinds of toys.
