Boreale

Boreale

Installation, Sacred / Mythological, Video installation, 450x900cm
Boreale is a celestial planisphere like those that used to be painted in the geographical rooms of nobles from the late Middle Ages onward. Portrayed is the boreal hemisphere‚ the northern one‚ in May.
Each constellation is represented through an image connected to the mythological episode after which it is named. The images have been singularly chosen among thousands of Arab and European medieval miniatures.
Faithfully arranged according to size and position of the constellations in the sky‚ the images built or de-contextualized shape a new harmony and take on a new value without quitting their origin‚ which is the fierce and mysterious allure deeply rooted in medieval aesthetics. Using anamorphosis means to put the audience in the position to enjoy an apparently frontal vision of the image‚ which once crossed discloses itself in all its width.
Once the difference of vision is perceived‚ it is possible to get used to the confutation of uniqueness of observation and the abandonment to it.
