My work represents the human body through a scientific lens permeated and affected by the challenge of individuality in the clinical setting. Through the human act of painting, I seek to transform the technologically mediated imagery of diagnostic MRIs into intimate, internal portraits of the patient as a diverse player in the actor-network at work in the clinical encounter. I work to bring the experience of diagnosis into focus, and challenge what separates the illness experienced from the disease identified. The titles of these works are directly lifted from an instructional pamphlet distributed to patients before undergoing an MRI event.
