In 2009, I made a trip for three months to Iran, holding two solo exhibitions in Tehran. These initiatives provided me with precious opportunities to reconnect with my Iranian culture, observe and experience co-existence of old and contemporary conditions within this culturally rich and rapidly changing country.
One of the most obvious phenomena, as I proudly noticed and was inspired by, was a broad presence of an active, intelligent class of women in the Iranian society at large. Despite the continuous male domination, Iranian women have emerged as a brave, knowledgeable, and important part of a moving force toward a brighter future. In spite of all cultural constrictions, Iranian women are moving on, weaving their own future, and elevating their own social status.
