Figures on a Bridge
This painting is to do with the act of remembering. At first it seems we are looking at three women, but they look so similar that it may actually be three images of the same woman, past, present, future, or youth, motherhood and old age. When I painted it I wanted to make the figures ephemeral and ghostlike, like a memory which fades and loses clarity over time.
The water breaches the solidity of the wall...the wall seems to bleed into the paving stones...the figures themselves blend and blur into one.
