'Host' is a site specific work located in Winchester Cathedral. It has been compiled using 900 pieces of sliced white bread which have been printed onto to complete an image of an oak tree in a rape field. Each piece is individually catalogued and numbered working in a similar way to a mosaic with the individual slices behaving as a tile within the overall mosaic. The bread is nailed up with one single tack to the timber board. It is being shown as part of an exhibition re-imagining the treasures of Hyde Abbey. In this context it is investigating the relevance of the monastic agricultural community and how may be translated into a contemporary setting. The piece references the eucharist or bread used in the Christian communion, again echoing the communal ritual and worship conducted at the site.
