"Sakura Nipponica Fenomenosa or Complex Simplicity " (kanji, kana & romaji)

This is piece from my "One body-many languages" series.The modern Japanese writing system uses a combination of over 1,945 Kanji Chinese characters(painted on the table) and 2 sets of Kana syllables (Hiragana-46 & Katakana-46)-painted on the vase. The shape of the vase in this painting mimics the round “Rising Sun” on the Japanese flag. The Yin-Yang design is used to underline the importance of balance among elements of the whole (positive-negative, dark-light, square-round, inner-foreign, warm-cold, etc.)
The rectangular sand & stone container depicts a miniature version of the Zen Garden, as a symbol of Simplicity. On the left, there is a traditional metal teapot with two cups for Tea-an important aspect of the social life in Japan. The white brick wall in the background contains the engravings of about 100 Japanese names and brands that have engraved themselves in western vocabulary and society. Painted in memory of Hiroshima & Nagasaki victims.
