The In self Portrait

The In self Portrait

Painting, Death, Nude, Oil, 24x30cm
I’m a working man’s son, become a bourgeois.
I live in a semi-detached house, in an orderly suburb of an orderly town in northern Italy.
I have a job.
I'm married, and we have a daughter.
I quit drinking about five years ago.
I don’t have a facebook profile.
On the weekend I cut the lawn in the garden, and I shop in the malls.
I have a dog, and a cat.
I’m scared of what I hear and what I read.
I don’t own any firearms.
Sometimes I stop to talk to people on the street.
This has cost me far more than anyone could ever imagine.

I paint what I see, so I do almost exclusively self-portraits.
This represents what’s left of me after more than 50 years of corrosion.

The one who will become my daughter’s husband will probably have a gun in the house.
