Le Visite della Notte
This, like other paintings, is part of a series still in progress produced with the technique of surrealist automatism. It starts from a substantially informal sketch, which slowly, with different overlaps and successive cancellations, comes to make us understand a scene that is then consciously brought to light. In this way a more or less free emergence of unconscious images is allowed, with the possibility of distinguishing various significant symbols. This is obviously possible because my constant interest leads me to a systematic study of the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung and his pupils, such as Marie Louse Von Franz and James Hillman, whose texts are filled with images and symbolic interpretations. As far as I am concerned, one of the main references is also the incessant imaginative production of the dreams I make.
The references are to Bosh, Goya, Max Ernst and other great visionary artists of the past.
