Chaiyim - Harmonics of energy (triptych), 2017

Chaiyim means "life" in Hebrew. Life is energy and a flow of energy is the essence of any creative process.
The essence of energy is transformed into anything we do. It appears, however, when applying energy we undergo periods of varying strength or force; each giving us a different experience.

As an artist, I am constantly confronted with the outcomes of what I create and often I am perplexed in what I see, not so much in the image itself but in the dynamics, which, I believe, determine the various facets in how a piece of art might be perceived or how it may communicate mood.

This triptych presents an experiment through which I sought to increase awareness of my own energy transformation during a painting process and how this may influence not only the resulting images but also their structure and my stylistic parameters while trying to remain within the format of a triptych.
For this I painted 3 separate canvases simultaneously, never spending any lengthy amount of time on any one canvas and with the aim to complete them as one piece within a time frame of 48 hours.

The outcome: it appears that I can not fully exert my energy constant across a set of canvases. Each panel holds a different dynamic, which may be assumed in the rhythms of the linework, the flow of the paint and the intensity of colours; even though the colour-palette is identical, their tonal values and distributions vary. I also noticed that there is diversity in structure, composition and image strength across the 3 panels.

Although I am satisfied with the experience I had, other, more personal, aspects may have certainly impacted the experiment and may have distracted from a more objective conclusion.

Thinking of it, I tend to pay too much attention to the outside world and fall short of recognizing my own internal state of being. I think I'll try to change that in the future. Could be interesting to consciously establish a habit of conscious "back-propagation" between my internal world, my work and the outside world.

I love your explanation. This is a piece that would be interesting to look at, and although a painting always also reflects the inner state - or states - of the artist, that usually is more of an unconscious process, while in this case you directly projected your state of mind, the "energy" level as you put it, onto the canvas. A fascinating experiment, and also food for thought. As a photographer I freeze moments, and my state of mind isn't changing much during that fleeting instance in space and time, but as a writer it is very similar, where long pieces and take days, weeks, months, or shorter pieces are written up over the course of a day with certainly considerably changing energy levels and mental states.

The text, describing the artistic intentions, process and outcomes, is absolutely fascinating. The artwork is wonderful, each panel being interesting as individual compositions, yet the whole piece works as a unified project. Beautiful expressive style, sound technique, beautiful detailing.....strong work:)
