Ha-Ha

Ha-Ha

I make paintings of spatial structures with figurations of the private, linguistic weavings and abstractions. An encounter between a commitment towards the private and a commitment towards the political creates a public sphere. I paint this public sphere. My paintings are about the encounter between the self, life and society. This painting is made with only two colours, red and green + white. The painting is part of a series of three paintings that are each made with only two complementary colours. The painting depicts a body under a bed sheet. On top of the painting is a drawing of a Ha-ha wall and there is also an image of Crataegus berries, that are often found in hedges. My interest is linked to the fear I see in the world today and the growing of right wing parties in the western world. The painting is about the sensation of wanting to protect oneself.
