Insula
The insula, or insular cortex, is an area of the brain.
It is believed that the insula plays an important role in the process of mapping the states associated with visceral emotional experiences. The current hypothesis is that the insula work as a kind of body scanner that receives and integrates a large number of semantic signals, through which it builds the inner representation of the body itself ("the material me").
I was born on a volcanic island.
The insula project comes from this essential fact. The island I am building is not a physical place, it has a mapping without a center, made of my imaginary landscapes rooted in the mediterranean. Geography as a starting point to an introspective investigation.
